Oddly enough, I took a self-portrait last night...

Nice border!
Curious as to where you got it. A sequence of slightly different images in the same movie film border might be fun :)

Actually Roger, it's a totally customizable filter that comes standard in GIMP. I just found it the other day when I wanted to edit a picture on my girlfriend's laptop (she doesn't have Photoshop). I'm not a huge fan of GIMP--but only because I'm so used to Photoshop. However, it can work wonders in a pinch.

Where can I get these actions from? :)

I don't know where devsalvi got the actions he was talking about, but GIMP is a free alternative to Photoshop. You can find out more about it at GIMP's homepage. It's got a few nice standard filters and it also provides a few different options for converting images to black & white.
This is one place.
Adobe photoshop actions
cheers!
Here are a few of my recent portraits...
The flower one has a wierd green cast for some reason (not the case in the original file, just uploaded strange), other than that I was pretty happy with these this month. Don't have the details in front of me at the moment. I can post them later if anyone wants them.
The second one's good, but I like the first one best. Well done...

You are welcome.

Here is a shot from April of 2009 edited with one of the photoshop actions I found on that page. I added the noise and the vignette after the action was done.

Roger - See if you can soften the transition in the vignette. When I put a vignette in a 15mp image, I usually max out the limitations of CS2 by using a 250 pixel feather to transition into the vignette. The transition to vignette in your image looks like a line drawn in the sand (otherwise I really like it).

Usually after running the action i do a ctlr+alt+z which opens up the individual steps(separate layers) before the layers are combined. Then you can change / tweak the settings on each layer and then merge them again.
