M_Six, Drive down to Little Grand Canyon in SW Illinois. It is almost impossible not to see an Indigo this time of the year while driving on the backroad to the hiking trail parking lot.
Oh man. I get excited seeing the Pileated Woodpeckers from 100 feet away with my binocs. I can't image how I would feel if one landed on my perch with my camera at the ready. Awesome.
Awesome! I was wondering when you were going to have a Red-headed up here...

This was a pretty neat study a few years back.
Ring-necked Snake (Diadophis punctatus). Cool little snakes. They do not get much bigger than a foot long. I found over 20 under a piece of tin last fall...along with five Copperheads.
Tell us a little bit about this shot! Were you in a blind for this? What lens were you using? Crop any? This is one of the better Red-shouldered Hawk pictures that I have ever seen. Very natural...
Went to visit my mother for Easter. She wanted me to get shots of her bulldog that was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Was a rather poor day to take pictures and I only had a 1DIII, 70-200, and a...
Ha, don't know about the weather sealing, but there is definitely a trick to keeping lizards still. 1. Catch them. 2. Make a slip-knot out of sewing string and tighten gently around a rear leg. 3....
Here's an earless lizard from Arizona. Notice that he has no external ear openings.

Oh man...that village shot is fantastic!
Spring is upon us in southeast Missouri. As you can see, the Spring Peepers are out and mating. The females (bottom) never seem to like photo opportunities, but the males don't seem to mind, which is...
Don't mind at all...looks good. Yeah, the 1dIII is much more responsive than my 40d. Everything works faster. When reading camera specs and dealing with fractions of seconds, I didn't really think...
Burrowed a 1dIII from my father. Pretty nice camera. Everything is much faster than on my 40d. I think I need to work on a homogenous background. I would like my background to be silky smooth like...
I was supposed to get out into the field this weekend, but I think the midwest ice storm will keep me at bay. Thus, I edited a photo from last fall (and yes, this is the proper orientation of the...
Maybe, but my T3i sits on top of my personal microscope at work or is in the hands of one of my students 100% of the time.
Yeah, I have about 40 Cowbirds in my backyard at all hours right now, so I've been playing all day. The males are tough. I can't get their heads and bodies both exposed without the heads ending up...

First time I have gotten to shoot in some time (not the best lighting conditions). Male House Finch:
Canon 40D, EF 400 f5.6, 1/200s, ISO 320, full power flash aimed into reflector at the top left....
I should have schedule last summer's Vancouver trip for the winter time! Oh wait, it's cold in Canada...never mind.
There's a service center in Virginia. The next closest is New Jersey:

I was at a wedding last summer where the bride hired an acquaintance (amateur) to shoot the wedding at a very discounted cost. I won't get into how disappointed the bride was in the photos at the...
