Great idea--especially since I was one of those that went digging through my collection
ditto haha

if your talking about noise 50D hands down, XTi's are pretty nasty above 400 ( I don't really shoot mine above 200 usually: i refuse to actually)

XTi 24-70mm f2.8 ISO 100 34mm editing to sat, sharpness, contrast and brightness, all in DPP. Found this driving through Worthington State Forest in NJ last spring off a dirt road. EDIT: sorry about the water marks, I had to dl it off my website server.

I'd really like to see the results, a shallower dof could create a really nice point of focus in the shot here's sort of what I'm talking about: XTi 24-70 at 70mm f2.8 if you notice, only the one tuning nob is in focus, and everything else in the shot creates some interesting background and foreground shapes
Check out the Nashville test video here !
That's a great thing you're doing Rodger, I'll have to look into this more
-
not too bad, the first shot I would say open the apperature up a few stops, it'll let you use a faster shutter, and will most likely be sharper. doesn't image quality degrade after f9.3 or something on an xti? I would try 5.6. the second one looks pretty good though.

it was actually two cinimon toast crunch snoots set onto one another (i'd say in the area of 8-9") from about 10-15 feet. and thanks guys.

That's a great shot Sean. Here's a self-portrait I did the other night while bored. I wanted to get shadows from the tree in the front yard but couldn't make it work so I just switched up my flash placement
They're still not the greatest portraits, but they're kind of fun. haha.
To be honest I really like the second one with the exception that the girl's eyes are closed, it's a nifty composition

possibly try one of those rubber things you can use to open bottles? give you a bit more grip.
