Fry's electronics normally stock the Sony Brand for 4.95/5.95. I use these in a Contax 645 and they last as well as other brands, not sure about the transmitter use.

Phase One has a method of allowing use of the iPhone to remotely control Capture One, this also works with the Canon Utilities. Here's the URL: http://www.phaseone.com/HOME/Content/Support/Article.aspx?articleid=1220&LanguageID=1 It took 5-10 minutes to get this working on a Mac. My older iPhone (1st generation) often gets "out of memory"

The 580EX II is a buy it now and use it. The assumption is that newer units are always better but not in every respect, it may not interface with older ( or your camera) as well as it's contemporary model, in other words there may be features the newer model doesn't have that you might have used in the older model. Dallasphotog, I wish it were as easy as crack to break this addiction. At least you meet a lot of nice people doing this....better than crack.

I third the eneloops. Been using them for a year and they stay charged for months if not used, other rechargables are always dead if not charged prior to use and get worse with age. Combine these with the La Crosse BC-900 charger. The charger allows you to charge them nice and slow so they will remain usable for many years. I believe Sony also makes
