  • Re: TDP-forums assignment. Interested?

This sounds like a fun and productive idea. I think setup shots and exif data are a must though. Dave.

@ Keith... that IS some good lighting... but I agree that the green background is not the most appealing. @Sean.. Love the railroad shot. There are very nice lines and an intriguing pose selection, I can see that black and white really would do more for the shot than color. Took this according to the strobist idea of shooting with white balance set

  • Re: What should I spend my money on?

With $150 and a little wiggle room, you could probably get a 285HV and a set of CTR-301p trigger/receiver for your flash and then you will have taken your first step into off camera lighting. I personally will vouch for that.

Jaw dropping is a bit of an understatement. Nate, that lion is unbelievably amazing. Full frame at 200mm, that lion was pretty darn close. For real, thanks for sharing that gem.

@ Joel. Love those robin shots. They always appear so cute in real life, so the background full of dandelions really evokes that emotion. @john, The wood pecker is Amazing, so sharp and a very well timed pose. Between you, nate, and joel. I just can't get enough of these birds you all can find! Took this of some flowers near my folks home in the

  • Re: 16-35 vs 17-40

I went from the kit 18-55 to a 17-40, although I have not had the experience with loss of sharpness that Daniel was referring to. I may have had an off copy of the kit lens, but once I switched over I had a dramatic increase in image quality. Not to mention, I was getting twice the light in the lens on the long end. 4 vs 5.6 and a terrific increase

  • Re: what do you carry in you camera bag?

Wow... so my gear seems fairly modest by comparison. Always with me are.: 50D; 17-40L; 70-200 f4 L; 60mm Macro; 580exII; one 8G and one 32G CF card; 2extra camera batts; 2 sets of flash refill AAs; and a mini 13 inch diffuser umbrella (just gotta find a human boom); CTR-301p trigger/receiver. My wife has a 50 f1.4 for her camera, so I get to borrow

  • Low budget light stand anchor.

So I was at the store the other day looking for a solution to my problem. On windy days, my light stands don't quite hold up to the weather, especially with 30 inch umbrellas on them. Then suddenly it came to me. I was in the pet department of the local monopolizing discount store, and realized the fish rock bags would make a perfect anchor. So
