Great shot, I really like how he seems to stare with approval. I can hand-hold my 600mm lens at 1/200th to 1/320th second with critically sharp results without IS. The slowest I have ever held it without any motion blur was an amazing 1/60th second! Don't know why I would want IS for. John.

I vote for the 1DIV. I usually sugest lenses over a camera body but in your situation I think a camera body upgrade makes more sense. John.

Yes it's not quite as sharp as the 50D but the 7D has more mpx and outweighs the slight softness. Just thought you might consider it as an option. John.

If I were you I would get a 7D, you get 8 fps and 18 mpx. You have way more resolution than the 1D III and only lose 2 fps. Here is a RAW picture I found on the web, it was taken with a EF 50mm f/1.8 at f/5.6, ISO 100, sharpening applied. Is the image quality good enough for what you want to do? That is based on someone who has the used that card in a 7D and has used much faster cards as well. I know its odd but its true.
