Going through unprocessed photos and I came across a series of this Roseate Spoonbill in flight that I took with Mike (Busted Knuckles) at the Black Point Drive in the Merritt Island NWR last January. This was my favorite

I picked up another 7DII back in November just before heading to Florida hoping I would gain a little reach . I wasn't overly impressed with it , my second 7DII. I did get a few decent shots but every time i used my 5DIII it would lock focus and give me a nice sharp image. Not the case with the 7DII , sharp images were in the 10-15% range . I am pretty sure a lot of soft shots are my fault but definitely not all of them. I bought a few guides and some post processing courses which helped a bit but i still wasnt convinced I would keep the 7DII.
I made a backyard setup for woodpeckers earlier this week and decided to do some testing. I used the 7DII with a 400F5.6L , 1DsIII with 400F5.6L + 1.4xIII to get similar FOV. I took over 200 shots with each camera and was quite surprised by the sharpness of the 7DII. There is definitely more detail in the 7DII images. I guess my old 400 just isnt very good for birds in flight cause on a still subject it proved itself today.

I sold my 7DII and 17-40mm f/4 lens to generate funds to buy a 5D IV ... no regrets. I did get some good images form the 7DII but only in the best conditions. Overall I was not impressed compared to the 1D IV or the 1D X even with the extra "reach" of the crop sensor.

    Both shot with 5DMkIV and EF 400mm 5.6 after a fresh snowfall. 1/1000 at 5.6 ISO 1000 and 800.

I waited for the 5DMk IV to get my first FF. Also have the 7DMkII. IQ on 5D is so much stronger especially at high ISO. No surprise I know. Think I will keep the 7DII for reach and speed for the birds when there's enough light out for lower ISOs. Debating. Looking forward to participating in forums. Thanks for all the great sharing.

I was having a terrible time with my 7D II not giving me sharp images with my 400 f5.6 lens. I tried a 1DsIII , 5DIII and borrowed a friends 1DX and they seem to work fine . For some reason the old 400 is very inconsistent with my 7D II. Well I found a used 1DIV at a good price and boy does it work well with my lens. Of course Murphy's law showed up and it rained all weekend so I only got to shoot close small birds at high iso. I am very happy with the results so far. I cant wait to get some good light and give it a good workout.
