Great colors, but bad after processing...please help !

They are great shots! Not that I always practice what I preach, but try the good old rule of thirds. In this case crop the shot so the subject is coming into the frame rather than in the center or heading out of it. Giving the guys in the boats some place to be gong might make more interesting pictures. My $.02.

Im alittle confused the title says that the colors look bad after processing but yet the last comment said that no processing was done? Is your monitor calibrated correctly? If your monitor isnt calibrated that could be the issue.

I agree with Joel. Monitor calibaration makes a huge difference. Also white balance influence the colors in the picture. Please correct me if i am wrong.

If the "after" is after processing, then what is the "before"? What came before processing that you are comparing it to? Are you saying that "before" is the way that you saw the scene with your eyes? Is it the camera JPEG? The preview image on the LCD on the back of the camera?


Or are you saying that these images are the "before". They have great colors as they are, unprocessed. And you're saying that any further processing would ruin the colors?

I'm sorry ! It's very hard for me too to explain.


But what I can tell you, is when I check the pictures in RAW format, right out from the camera, the colors are great. After compression, lets say in JPEG, the colors are fading out. I get some noise too.

That might be caused by viewing an image with a non-sRGB profile in a non-colour-managed application. If you describe exactly how you go about creating the JPEG (in the least number of steps possible), we can suggest where to check and make sure it is set to sRGB.

I get some noise too.

That may be caused by the resizing algorithm (e.g. some use "nearest neighbor" which is bad. bicubic is ok. Lanczos is much better). Can you try a different algorithm or a different program to resize.


Another possibility is that the compression itself. Can you try lower compression levels? (e.g. 95% compression instead of 75%?)
