Hello. I'm debating between getting a 70-200 f/4 or a 200 f/2.8. I will probably use this for some everyday use, but really want it to photograph indoor sports, mainly basketball. I was wondering if the f/4 would be usable in gym coditions...I use a 40D and don't mind bumping up the ISO. I need...

Even though there is no doubt that the canon lenses are superior to most (all?) other lenses, there are many of us that cannot afford these. I am a low-budget hobby photographer who bought my 400D camera just before a trip to Uganda (2008). Since then, I have bought a Tamron 17-50 2.8 to replace the...

I ordered a 70-200 f4 about 3 weeks ago here in switzerland by an offical Canon distributor. First it said, they are ot of stock, but that they will get new lenses by the end of January, then it said beginning of february, and now the say middle of february. Is that just a local problem, or do you heard...

What a pickle I am in. Just wondering how you guys deal with this problem. I don't know about others who shop for camera gear but I have checked out both mom and pop camera stores and large chain retailers and of course the wonderful internet. I have received such good service at this one store,...

Hi there... I just purchased the Canon 70-200 2.8L IS USM and thrilled about the picture quality and the bokeh this lens is providing me. I did however notice, as usual, once I got home, a very tiny speck of dust (a particle of some sort) that looks to reside just under the front glass. It is really...

I've posted a few questions on here before, and I have another one now. I'm saving up for a lens that will be used for indoor sports (hockey and basketball), but also just for general purpose...I do like to shoot things other than just sports. I'll be using it for lots of things. My budget...

Another consideration is that the IS may not be the only difference between the two lenses. Looking at Bryan's magic mouse-over ISO chart comparing the 70-200mm F4 L IS vs. the non-IS version , it shows a massive improvement in image quality in the IS lens. Since the poor results on the non-IS lens...

According to Canon's Press Release about a new two-axis IS system, we can suppose that the 70-200 f/2.8 IS will be the first lens to benefit from the upgrade. This would explain all the fuss about it being either delisted or very difficult to obtain.

for the f/4 IS vs f/2.8, I would go for f/4 IS because I'm spoiled by the IS. hehe. The f/4 IS can still be used in low light because of the IS and also by using a higher ISO. I don't shoot sports anyway so I think I can go with that lens. But to bring the discussion back to the topic f/2.8 IS...
