Congrats Brittany [Y] [H]

Butterflies are hard to capture - especially at this size... let alone when all you are using is a P&S.

P.S If you don't know what I'm talking about, there: Published, On the Cover, Age? 10 ("/blogs/news/archive/2009/05/27/published-on-the-cover-age-10.aspx)

I agree with Oren, Brittany deserves a big congratulations. She has been able toaccomplish at 10what I haven't been able to do at 30 and thats to get on the cover of a magazine. Keep up the good work and hopefully we'll be hearing more anouncements like that.

Wow, that photo holds its own against many of the experienced shooters I've seen. Well done.

Congratulations to both Brittany and Bryan! Well done, nice shot!

I'm posting so rarely - mainly because of my poor English, but in this very special case I couldn't do without paying you a compliment...

Totally agree since it's the same for me... And she did it with a powershot !!!

In fact, I'm so impressed, I just join this site to be able to say how I'm impressed.

Thanks everyone - Brittany is very excited and says "Thanks!" as well.

I might be able tomake the cake happen, but c'mon pierlux, you're getting me into trouble with the 5D II! [:)]

What I really love about the shot is the angle it was taken from - its almost like the viewer is another butterfly on an adjacent flower! Shots like that make you feel you're part of the scene, not just an observer. Well done Brittany, I am green with envy!

To capture more fabulous butterfly shots Brittany will also need the 180L Macro lens for her new 5DM II[;)]

I love the perspective young kids bring to photography. They look up at almost everything.

I agree. Give a child a camera, and you can see the world through their eyes.

My mind must have been clouded as I forgot to include the EXIF info for that shot:

7.4mm, ISO 50, 1/640, f/2.8, ambient light only

7.4mm?? That's an extremely wide focal length. Extension tube?

Regardless, congratulations to your daughter. It's a great honor to be published--I should know, I've never been published. ;-)

I believe it was shot with a Powershot camera - The 35mm equivalent ends up being 28mm or so given the crop factor of the camera.

These cameras have a "Digital Macro" mode used to capture extreme closeups - I would assume this was used to capture that fantastic shot[:)].

7.4mm is normal for a P&S... My S60 P&S lens is about 5-15mm.

Way to go, Brittany! This will be inspirational news for my 11-year-old son, and perhaps also proof that a great photo comes from the way the photographer sees the subject, not just from a fancy camera.

Ahhhh.....I forgot it was a point & shoot. Makes perfect sense. Thanks for pointing that out.

Definitely a very nice photo. Shows that its the photographer and not always the camera.

That was a nice photo no matter which camera you took it with.

Let me add my congratulations as well.

But come on. It seems almost unfair that she got that shot at age 10. Shouldn't she have thought about the egos of older and less able photographers (me, mostly) before doing it? [;)]

I hope she sticks with photography.
