I am going on vacationto Ocean City, New Jersey ("http://www.ocnj.us/) for a week. I am really excited about taking a ton of pictures!Below is a list of things that I am hoping to capture. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do but I'd be stupid not to accept advice from the many brilliant photographers out there in this community so please feel free to chime in with tips from you own experiences. I'm taking my entire kit with me which I'll list below as well.

-Family Snap-Shots (Not the most exciting thing in the world but my 4 month old son and 9 month old niece make for great subject matter [:)])
-Sunrise/Sunset
-Long Exposure
-HDR
-Beach Silhouettes

My Kit:

Canon EOS 50D

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5
Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS
Canon EF100mm f/2.8
Canon EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS
Canon EF50mm f/1.4
Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8 L IS

Canon 580EX II Speedlite
Canon 430EX Speedlite
Canon 430EX Speedlite

Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch

My first piece of advice would be: don't take it all. I've doneit and wound up using not even half of what I had taken. I would narrow the kit to 10-22, 17-55, 70-200, 50, one of your speedlites and the remote. These should cover all fo the objectives, IMHO. Ihope you're takingsome kind of tripod with you.

I usually take two bags with me,a large onecapable to hold all of the above (I use Tamrac Expedition 6), that I take to unknown locations, and a small one (Lowepro Flipside 200 or Fastpack100)for short trips andonceI narrow down whatI'mafterthatday.

Havefun and may this trip be fruitful [H].

My entire kit packs up nicely in a Canon Deluxe Backpack 200 EG ("http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/248295-REG/Canon_6229A003_Deluxe_Backpack_200_EG.html) and a Lowepro - EX 120 Photo/Video Bag ("http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5866967&type=product&id=10595739 32762)so it often goes everywhere I go. Sometimes I leave the Lowepro - EX 120 Photo/Video Bag ("http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5866967&type=product&id=10595739 32762)behind but the last time I did I regretted it since it holds my EF100mm f/2.8 and my EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS. The house that we have rented is 1 block from the beach so I will be able to easily run back and forth (if necessary) to change gear.

<p style="CLEAR: both"]This will be my go-to kit but I'd hate to be in one of those "I wish I brought my..." situations since I'll be there for a week. If I only use my macroone time it will be worth it to me [:)]. On top of that if there are some cool birds or dolphins swimming in the ocean I am going to want to have access to my EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS.
<p style="CLEAR: both"]I am absolutely bringing a tripod (even though it's a horribly crappy one [:(]). An upgrade is in the works but my bank account is still suffering from my June purchase of the EF70-200mm f/2.8 L IS.

I see the idea of taking two bags is not new to you. I think it's a simple and practical solution. My wife thinks it's crazy[:D]

Yeah, these moments suck... I personally had more of those: "Why did Idrag all that...(the rest of the sentence is not very civilzed [:@]). On mytrip to CapeCodlast summer I took 40D, XSI, 10-22, 17-55, 100-400, 100 2.8, 50 1.4 andSigma 18-200 HSMand used only 10-22, 50 and 100-400 to photograph, and 18-200 to snap. Thissummer I went to Berkshire Montains and did exactly the same...I guessit's just all me...Anyway, I promised myself to downsizea bit formy trips.

That's a huge advantage.

Welcome to the club [;)]

Anyway, again, have a great vacation and don't forget to post some pix when you get back.

Ok so I terribly over estimated how much time/energy I would have for photography while vacationing with a 4 month old! Anyway, here are a couple of pictures I was able to take in between my fatherly responsibilities [:)]

Nice photos! I particularly like the one through the pier catching the spray. Seems New Jersey is plagued with the August haze that like here in Maryland there is no UV filter strong enough to cut it.

Thanks Larry

You said it! It's really frustrating. It can make everything look soft.

Very nice. My favourite ones are the surfer and the upside-down boat + dramatic sky.
