try B&H. I got mine about 2 months ago and it was definitely less than that - I think it was $550 - came to under $600 including tax, that I remember for sure.
good luck! it's a nice monitor, best in this price range from everything I read. I don't have any complaints - I got the EyeOne Display 2 to calibrate it and it's been working like a charm.
