View Full Version : Strange image noise when using off-camera radio-triggered flash

So I borrowed an umbrella setup with a cactus trigger to shoot some simple formal shots in a dark church. Shot with a 5d and 430 EX II flash. All of the images had a band of noise at the top of the image when using the off-camera flash and none had it with no flash or on-camera flash. Anyone seen this? Thanks. Also, the person I borrowed it from hasn't seen this in his shots (on a 50d).

BTW, my take is that somehow the transmitter is sending a signal at the same time that the image is being off-loaded from the sensor and it is somehow interfering with the data on the way to the processor? Seems far-fetched.

I've heard of the issue and it specifically pertains to the 5D and some wireless triggers.

The original 5D seems to be unusually susceptible to the problem.

Thanks, Sean. Thankfully I was able to crop them all. Not ideal framing, but salvageable.
