View Full Version : Serial Number Question: Just curious
I've got a 75-300mm 4-5.6 IS USM. I believe it's one of the originals, but I am not totally positive. I picked it up around 2004. There is a code stamped on the back, but it is "90200853". No letters. Did Canon change their numbering at some point? Or are the non-L lenses coded differently? Anyone have any idea?

I checked my L lens and non L lens, both are just numbers, no letters.

The serial number is just that, a number. All Canon EF lenses have a serial number unique to the model of lens.
Some EF lenses also have a second code, called the date code. All EF L lenses should have this code. More information about this code is available here:

I find the letter/number code on both my L lenses.
A serial number only (seemingly) on my EF 75-300mm 4-5.6 IS USM
No numbers of any kind on my EF-S 10-22mm (that I can find).
Was basically just curious how old my 75-300mm lens was.
