View Full Version : An attempt at studio work with less than ideal gear.

Hey! I did a "studio" shoot with random things around the house. Here are my three favorite out-takes. The set up was two desk lamps with 100W equivalent daylight balanced CFLs. They were placed camera right and left. They were "diffused" with white pillow cases. My immediate apologies to Sean -- working on getting true gear.

not too bad, the first shot I would say open the apperature up a few stops, it'll let you use a faster shutter, and will most likely be sharper. doesn't image quality degrade after f9.3 or something on an xti? I would try 5.6.

the second one looks pretty good though.

Thanks twistedphrame!

I had the apeture opened that wide because at 1:1 DOF is so shallow, even with a high aperture. I will give a shallower aperture a try next time I pull out my camera.

I'd really like to see the results, a shallower dof could create a really nice point of focus in the shot

here's sort of what I'm talking about: XTi 24-70 at 70mm f2.8

if you notice, only the one tuning nob is in focus, and everything else in the shot creates some interesting background and foreground shapes
