Saw this a while ago, but just got around to trying it today:

I figured, what with all the holiday lights around right now, it would be a good way to spice up your normal holiday photos.

This is one in front of my christmas tree.

Funny that I just got my 7D today, and the first thing I do after spending $1800 is take a picture using a homemade cardboard lens filter. Then again, I guess these are the kind of accessories I can afford now.

These kind of accessories just give an extra creative touch to your pictures, and are way cheaper ;-). The picture looks nice, I'm just not a fan of the red glow on the face.

Maybe I should get a pair of scissors and start cutting, Christmas trees, stars and snowflakes to spice up my own bokeh the coming weeks!

Yeah, the red glow wasn't my preferred effect, but i needed it dark to get the maximum effect in the background. so the lights were off, and i held my iphone flashlight app next to her face.

+2 points for that!

Nice filter! Mine didn't turn out that great!

as I am a disciple of the great Sean: A snooted off camera flash would have worked too, especially if you could gel it.
