They are currently trying to provide some extra functionality to the 40D, including (but not limited to) movie recording and AF adjustment. See http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/40D ("http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/40D). It's far from complete, but it should be really nice once it's done.
