View Full Version : Resizing in DPP
I've got a question about DPP that's been nagging for a long time now.
When I do batch processing, and I want to converta bunch of .CR2 files to .JPG, there is a resize option I can apply to all the shots.
Can I batch process shots that are in landscape orientation at the same time as shots that are in portrait orientation?
For example, I have a shot that's 4272 X 2848 (the standard landscape XSi pixel dimensions) and a shot that's 2848 X 4272 (the standard portrait orientation). If I batch process them at the same time, and want to resize to 2100 x 1400, it would resize the landscape one to that size, but the portrait orientation shot would be resized to 2100 x 3150?
I have the little box checked that says I want to maintain the pixel dimensions of the shot, or whatever it says, I can't remember.

So does anyone have an answer to my question about resizing? I guess I'm wondering how "smart" DPP is when it comes to this function.

This seems like a really easy one to answer for yourself...just take a couple of landscape and a couple of portrait RAW files, and batch export them all together as resized jpgs in DPP, then check the sizes. Since it's an export to JPG, the original files are left intact so there's nothing to lose.

Sorry for the short answer, Alex. The answer is yes you can. [:)]

If you have a mix of horizontal and vertical images and you choose lets say 800 (wide) X 533 (height) all your horizontal images will be 800x533 and the verticals will be 533x800.
Can you set different parameters for horizontals and verticals when you batch process? I don´t think so.

I recently process a bunch of soccer pics with DPP. I found that it new when I switched between portrait and landscape and sized accordingly. Also I had a couple of odd crops not the same ratios as the others, and it also handled them well. Basically I set my long side to 1024 pixels and the odd pictures had 1024 on the long side even though the short side was different size than the others.
Needless to say I was rather pleased ;-)
