I purchased a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 non-vc a while back and I was going through the rebate form this morning. I realized that they actually wanted couple "cut-outs" from the packaging box. Although I don't plan on selling this lens for years down the line, I wanted to keep the original box without any defects. Will it hurt down the line when I'm trying to sell it? [:^)]

What're everyones thought on having to do cutouts for rebates!? (This rebate is $45)

It's very common to see "Packing does not have UPC" on items sold on ebay. I know why it's not there, and it doesn't bother me.

What I did before on a previous rebate was photocopy the UPC cut out area and stuck the copy back in the box with a piece ofcard board backing glued in. I had planned to keep the box and wanted to make sure the integrity of the box wasn't compromised by the cut-outs. This doesn't do anything for keeping the box pristine though.

Great! I think I'll do exactly that. Although I'm not sure what the UPC code is used for other than that...? [*-)]

That's how the bad man in the store finds out how much money he can take from you...

I'd leave it cut out. buyers understand that it was cut out for a rebate, but if a UPC copy is taped or pasted into place, they may assume grey market or attempt to hide something..

You know, I prefer the instant rebates because you don't have to do anything you just save automatically, and that way you know, I don't have to die because I opened up Pandora's box...
