Hello everyone!

My Canon 5D Mark II currently has firmware version 2.0.4. Do I need
to download BOTH Firmware Update 2.0.7 AND 2.0.8 or will downloading
version 2.0.8 alone be sufficient? (I am unaware of any possible version
2.0.5 and 2.0.6 in existence).

I'm not sure whether 2.0.8 contains all previous updates within it, or
if I need to catch up by downloading all the updates I have missed, one
at a time.

I've asked other forums but there has been no consensus. Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt Dubuque

The latest update will include all previous ones. Good luck.

Matt,

piiooo is correct, but one answer doesn't make a consensus so I thought I would confirm it too.

Check out the "Firmware Q&A" section of this web page: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eos5dmk2/firmware.html

Thanks Andy,

I note the following language from the link you provided:

"The Version 2.0.8 firmware being released this time is for cameras with firmware up to Version 2.0.7. "

My camera currently has only Version 2.0.4. Strictly speaking therefore, it would seem from this language that I need to update to 2.07 first.

I can

If you go to the 5D Mark II website, it only offers the current firm ware. That should be a clue right there its the only one you need.

The language of that statement doesn't mean you have to update progresivly from .4 to .5 to .6. It means that if your camera has any firmware up to that point it will update it. Meaning if you have one that is 2.0.8 its not for you.

Edit: I think you should have read the Q&A on the website Andy Provided
<h4>"Are the previous versions of firmware included in version 2.0.8?</h4>

Yes, the following improvements from the previous version are included:"

If it stated, "...with firmware Version 2..0.7," then you would need to update to version 2.0.7 first. Since it states 'up to' the 2.0.8 update can be applied over 2.0.4 (or any version at 2.0.7 or previous), and will make it current.

Also, as Matt and Rick stated, it's in the FAQ.
