I'm considering using a wimberly tripod head II to mount a 15 pound telescope. (After an 8 1/2 year wait, I've been offered a chance to buy an AP 130GT, but I don't need an expensive equatorial mount). I've heard the head can handle a 400mm f/2.8, which weighs 11.8 lbs.
Another concern I have is that from pictures, it looks like it might not be possible to aim it very high. (I don't need to point the thing straight up, but if up-down movement is severely restricted, it would be a problem).
