Entry period will be from Sunday to Sunday, with this first one closing on the 21 July.
Only two categories; Portrait and Landscape
Portrait- Anything with eyes, people, animals
Landscape- Country, town, city, sea, abstract, things (water drops, smoke, flowers, candles and so on)

Each category will have a winner each week and this week judged hopefully by Jonathan Huyer, who I think lives in about the prettiest spot that I have seen.
Then a poll to sort out monthly winners.

Please supply a title for your image and what category you are entering in. Enter as many times as like, old or new images.
Start posting your new shots here.

I'll kick off with a shot from the weekend and my first solo texture effort after an intensive on-line tutorial by the super talented Denise, who demonstrated incredible patience as she walked me through the process. So thank you to her and I give a promise to keep trying and refining this new artistic skill.
But to my oafish Portrait effort titled;
It was only puppy love

I did a bit of recent retouching on a favorite of mine from last year (can't help it I just keep coming back to it and playing with this and that). Anyway, this was an attempt to do a natural light portrait using the sun as a back light and using reflectors as the front lights. Kudos to my daughter for putting up with Dad and my experimenting.

This one is from last week as I was taking candid shots of my nieces and nephews playing in my parent's yard.

Portrait entry: Nice to see you. Saved this bee from drowning in the kids pool. While he was drying, he allowed some portraits. The rest on my blog.

Hey I'd be delighted -- that will be quite an honour. But already I can tell that it will be a difficult job --- these shots are fantastic. The bar keeps rising each week!

My entries for this week will be two recent shots from a vacation trip last week. We spent several lazy days at the seaside and while the rest of the family were reading I was looking for photo opportunities.

My entry for the landscape category will be one of many sunset shots from the trip (the place is made for sunset shooting):

"Sunset rocks"
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2894/9336235091_7c7d03aa35_o.jpg

For the portrait category I selected a shot of a juvenile black-headed gull that was hanging around at the same spot along the shoreline as we.

And here is another landscape one before the deadline. I am going to call this one "Brave" because that's what I was called when bringing my 5D3 out on the water with me.

Wow these are all terrific... I'm really glad the entry period is just one week long, otherwise there would be far too many excellent photos to choose from. I picked two black & white photos as the winners: In the portrait category, Brian's "Sunday Staredown", for the eye-catching pose, highlights, and bokeh. It's a unique shot that makes you stop and stare right back. And in the landscape category, I picked Brant's "Still Standing", for the leading lines, strong lighting, contrast, and story-telling composition. Awesome job everyone, and thanks so much for the honour of being this week's judge!

Congrats Brant and Brian, well done.
And thank you Jonathan for your thoughtful consideration of the entries.
This is the spirit I hoped this assignment would embody, high turnover, good quality and great diversity. Onwards to week#6.
