Portrait- Anything with eyes, people, animals
Landscape- Country, town, city, sea, abstract, things (water drops, smoke, flowers, candles and so on)

The 'Three Sisters' are the iconic peaks for the town of Canmore, and you can find photos of them in all the tourist brochures. I've wanted to get my own shot of the peaks, but from a view that I haven't seen done before. I figured this small creek would offer a reflection opportunity, so a few days ago I whacked my way through the bush alongside the creek, until lo and behold, I found a perfect view. When tonight's sunset looked promising, I came back for the shot.

man, you guys are two for two already! what a cute pup Steve and what great reflected peak light JH.

I just shot this one a couple of days ago, so here is my landscape entry entitled:

In the Folsom foothills of California, summertime rarely brings cloudy sunsets. So with skies like this, it's time to grab the gear, hit the winding road leading to a favorite place, and take in this colorful treat.

This has been a photo in waiting all summer. I have a son that is very into roller coasters, but this track ride has been closed all summer and there isn't another way to get both of his favorites in a photo without being there. We finally were able to ride at the end of the day which turned out to be perfect with the sun. I had to use one shot into an HDR to get all of the detail back that I needed. Took this with the EOS M and the 18-55mm Kit lens.

Looked out of my front window of my house to see a beautiful array of yellow and orange colours shinning over Mt Dandenong. Grab my old trusty camera with the infamous EF 50mm f1/4, run onto the veranda, only to be able to capture part of the beautiful colours. Here it is anyway.

Hey David...good catch, they are very similar, but this one is a little further up the coast. It is Pemaquid Lighthouse in Bristol, Maine. This is the second time I've done this trip, but the Puffin cruise is out of New Harbor, then I hit Pemaquid, and finally, there is a pretty good local type seafood place called Shaws. Good day trip from NH.

While we are playing the guessing game, your recent landscape with the sun breaking through between the trees, that park along Sagamore Creek?

Here is another landscape. This was taken on Saturday in Danbury Bog, Danbury, NH:

Close Brant, its the Great Bay Wildlife Refuge though, I have been meaning to go out to the Urban Forestry Center though, don't think I've been there this year at all, I just moved right up the road from it recently so I don't really have an excuse

Anyways, here's my entry for a portrait, I decided to experiment with new filters and brushes to give it the worn, grungy look.

I can't think of a fitting title, so I'll just go with his name, "Matt"

Portrait entry for week #10

I was hired to do a photo shoot for a couple of local highschool softball players. They came up with the idea to use water balloons in place of a softball. (I think they saw something similar on a YouTube video).

I used my mulit-flash hummingbird setup to freeze the action. 3 remote speedlights with pocket wizards and one on camera all set to 1/8 power. Camera was 1D MKIV with Canon 35mm f/1.4L

We now await Pat's decisions for the best portrait and landscape shot for this week.

Sorry... I did not read your intro for this week and did not realize I was picking. Otherwise I would not have commented or posted myself.

I will get busy figuring out my picks. As is the case every week, the choice will be difficult.

For landscape, my pick would be Jonathan's "Three Sisters at Sunset".

Landscapes picks were really tough... I really liked Erno's and David's shots, but in the end the call of the mountains for this flat lander won out.

For the portrait pick, I was really splitting hairs to come up with one pick, but I ended up picking Wally's "Papa's Princess". Beautiful subject, great focuss, and very well executed.

Thank you everyone for sharring.:):):)

Wow that's a great honour --- thanks so much! And congrats to Wally too. "Papa's Princess" is the perfect title for the gorgeous shot. Pat I really liked your Old Town scene --- it was obvious that you spent some time putting that composition together, to great effect. The sepia finish was the perfect touch too.
