Good fortune was with me Easter morning as I just dropped off family at the airport at 0415 am, so it was a rush up a volcano to catch sunrise atop Haleakela on Maui's summit. I could hardly believe my eyes as the first light on the distant horizon was sandwiched between two layers of clouds. I am sure that all several hundred onlookers that morning will remember what they did on the morning of Easter, 2014.

This was a great week for the "Image of the Week". It makes for a tough decision.

Joel - Any other week you would have been an easy winner. However, this week Erno pulled out an absolutely beautiful capture of a scene that not many get the chance to see. This weeks Landscape goes to Erno.

For the portrait pick of the week, I went with the human element. This weeks pick goes to Joel's "My Friend, Bob". Great shot... great light.

A couple of other comments though:
Jayson - I think the blossom shot is one of the best I have seen from you. I really enjoyed that one a lot.
Sean - I really enjoyed your flower shot. I would have pulled in tighter, but I do not think it would have been near as effective. You taught me something this week... I need look at leaving more negative space. I tend to crop tightly, but sometimes it can be more effective leaving more canvas. Thanks.

Agreed on all points, Pat. Erno's shot is jaw-drop inducing. Anytime I see a shot and say "Wow" out loud and make my wife ask what I'm wowing about...:D

And love the portrait, Joel. I find people shots to be the most difficult to shoot and process. I'm always impressed when someone makes it look easy because I know how difficult it is.

Ooh, and this is post #666 for me. Uh-oh.

The kind words here are truly appreciated and also are quite humbling. All entries were really top notch and it seems that there has been more action on the assignments. Congrats to Joel on a beautiful people-scape.
