There are great portraits already this week but I was lucky to get a portrait of a very shy and elusive subject so I have to enter...."Mr. Groundhog" :)

Sean - I am really starting to like IR. Did you have a camera modified, or do you do that in Post?

Here are a couple of landscapes of Silver Lake, Mi taken last night. My attempt to provide at least a little competition for Sean.;)

Pat,

I'm actually using a Hoya 77mm R72 Infrared Filter (http://www.The-Digital-Picture.com/ShoppingEngine/Click.aspx?b=903&u=http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/122481-REG/Hoya_B77RM72_77mm_RM72_Infrared_Glass.html) attached to the front of my lens - no camera modification required. Although DSLRs have a filter built-in that blocks most IR light, a little bit passes through. The Hoya IR filter blocks all visible light allowing only IR light to reach the sensor. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your tastes and patience), shooting IR with an IR filter on the front of the lens presents a couple of challenges:

1) You cannot use the viewfinder to compose your scene with the filter in place.

2) Exposure times are very long. Most of mine are in the 2-3 minute range, requiring a timer.

Alrighty.

Sean's "Amanda on the beach" is pretty darn good, but... the portrait winner goes to Jayson's "Feed Me". Colourful, perfect DOF, unique, hard to capture subject.

Landscapes are much harder for me to judge... my main criteria is "would I expect to see this hanging on a wall". If Kayaker happened to be at Big Sur on a nicer day, it would be a fantastic shot... but I don't want a gloomy day picture on my wall. jrw's "Laurel Creek" is picturesque, but missing something to make it stand out. Sean's "Panama City Beach in IR" has a nice viewpoint, and a unique super high-contrast look. I could imagine it hanging on a wall somewhere artsy. Sean takes the landscape.

I'm going to stop taking pictures of people. Landscapes are workin' for me. :-)

Congrats Jayson! Thanks David!

Sean, your portrait skills are still working for you... you found a way to use a light-modifier on the sun. ;)
