Buttermilk Falls state park is located just outside Ithaca, NY. The park contains a chain of waterfalls hidden in a glen just upstream of Buttermilk falls (which can be viewed from the parking lot).

These include "Pinnacle Falls"

Stopped on the way home from photographing a reception. Took this about 3am. Used the flashlight on my iPhone to light the grass in front of the camera. 30 second exposure at f/4, 16mm, ISO 6400. Think I'm going to like this 6D.

This was an extreme challenge for birds in flight.....I spent a good 90 minutes with Tree Swallows buzzing all around me. I was using the 7D MKII + Canon 300mm f/2.8L This was my best image and maybe the toughest to get with the bird flying straight into the camera. If you can keep the birds in frame the AF system on the 7D MKII is very capable of focusing and tracking fast objects with erratic flight paths;)

Okay I just did a sneak-a-peek at the entries so far this week, since I'm doing the judging in a couple of days. You guys are positively killing me... these are all insane shots! Right now I'm inclined to just take the easy way out and call a 6-way tie. But please keep them coming... I love a challenge!

Not sure why but I have been having some issues with trying to add an image from the same shoot when editing the earlier post.
So here goes with image two. In case anyone is curious both were shot in shady spots bouncing in the evening light with a reflector.

As this week's judge, I can't believe the challenge all of you have thrown my way. The entries have been utterly insane. Joel's "Blue Bullet" is going to have to get the nod from me... I am still stunned at how a shot like that is even possible. It's a testimony to his skill, patience, vision, and determination. Congrats Joel, and thanks everyone for entering and for giving me another huge dose of inspiration.

He did mention something about an hour and a half spent there. No mention of how many 'culls' were made.
Fine job Joel! Congrats!

I don't know much about birds, but I remember that the barn swallows from my boyhood were FAST! Amazing to get that shot. Wonderful variety of posts, too. Congratulations to Joel.

Thanks Jonathan and everyone!

I didn't count the non-keepers but probably a few hundred. After the first 30 minutes I wasn't sure I would even get one image but finally got a good one by sticking it out for another hour or so.
