Continuing the Post your best _ series,
POST YOU BEST MACRO SHOTS!!!/emoticons/emotion-2.gif
Here are two of my best:
The first is a swallowtail butterfly. I like the color but the background is sorta distracting. taken with my 70-200l is.
the second is my favorite. It is some sort of really colorful grasshopper, this time I was better equipped: It was taken with my beloved ef 180mm f/3.5 macro, which has great bokeh. Sorry the resolution on the photos is not great although the originals are non cropped.

That grasshopper is GREAT!! The colors are really stunning.
One of my faves. It just posed for me, and smiled... kinda.

thanks dave. I was smiling when I took that photo, I had never seen an insect that colorful. Nice Mantid! They have the reputation for being very good macro subjects.
what lens did you use/emoticons/emotion-11.gif

Haha... well, you'll laugh when I say this, but I took this picture about week or so after my wife and I purchased our first camera together (Rebel XSi), and at that time all I had to shoot it with was a cheapie Tamron 75-300 telephoto. Since then, we bought a 50D and some better glass, but that picture is still one of my favorites. I just got lucky I guess.

This is one of the photos I wanted a higher shutter speed, but couldn't get my flash to keep up [:(] It probably doesn't qualify as a 'best' shot, but everything's a work in progress.

The dust might be a little bit distracting, but if I cleaned it off, it'd probably disturb the droplets.

Colin, Im a fan! I like them. I love the water droplets but where are they falling to? Whats the red thing at the bottom?
Dann, as much as I detest anything with 8 legs and 8 eyes to go with, you managed to make it look beautiful.
Colin

the droplets are residual rain suspended on some itsy bitsy spiderweb. We're looking straight down on it, more or less. The orange stuff is a rolled up power extension cord.
This is an older thread, but I have a question for you macro shooters.
Do you use a macro rail to do fine adjustments for your shots?
If so, what do you recommend?
(I guess that's two questions.....).
Thanks.
