5D 3 question

Does anyone know if the 5D 3 is being discontinued? Adorama doesn't even list it, Amazon is only selling through third-party sellers (used to get it from Amazon), Beach and BuyDig are posting it as not available. The Canon Store is only listing it as a refurbished. B&H has the body only. I know it has $700 off, but it seems to me that it is getting harder and harder to find. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

We are over a year since the 5DIV was announced, so it would make sense that the 5DIII was discontinued sometime soon.

However, it is still on Canon's website:

Makes sense. Guess I better snag one while I can. I probably should have been more clear about it being listed only as refurbished on the Canon Store site, the link I followed from the review page has the add to cart button greyed out. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for the reply.

You are right. I was merely observing that it was still listed on Canon's webpage, which to me means that it is current. However, it is listed as "out of stock" even in the Canon store. Interestingly, even the 6D Mk 1 is listed as on "backorder."

So, it would not surprise me if it was soon to be discontinued. Different replacements (both the 5DIV and 6DII) are in hand and they are likely working through old inventory.


BTW, I just upgraded to the 5DIV. I'll be selling my 5DIII (63K actuations) and Really Right Stuff "L" bracket within a week. PM me if you are interested, although, while my 5DIII is working great, I would personally be tempted by a new body at a low price if you can find one.

Thanks for your answers. Thought about the 5DIV and the 6DII but I rented the 5DIII this summer and did not want to send it back. Good luck selling your 5DIII. Appreciate the offer but I prefer to buy my camera bodies new. Thanks again.

I asked a local store about this, they can't order any 5dMKIII anymore so yeah I'd say it's been discontinued, although I'm guessing it makes sense given all the new bodies coming out
