Hello guys , So I recently noticed that my 70-200 lens jumps when I have the Af on. Has anyone had this happen before. My friend says the AF motors seems to be messed up. I don’t think canon will fix it at this point because the warranty expired. When I have the lens of Manual focus it works perfectly fine.

I’m currently shooting with the Canon r5 with the eos adapter.

A few questions might help sort it out:

Are the images properly focused with AF on?

Have you tried gently cleaning the electrical contacts on the lens?

Have you tried the lens on other bodies and other AF lenses on your R5?

Have you updated the firmware in the lens?

I suspect you can get service from Canon: 1-800-OK-CANON

I would run the list Joel gave. I have the exact combo (R5 and EF 70-200 f/2.8 II) and have not experienced any jumping. My quick guess would be Joel's #2, that something is interfering with your lens to camera contact points.

Even if not resolvable via a quick home fix, Canon will fix it out of warranty, it just won't be free. I think 10 years ago they had a minimum repair fee of $250. No idea what that fee is today, but that's the minimum, unless they're feeling generous.

Hey Joel

Thanks for the response,

75% of the time when I do shoot with the AF on it doesn’t work perfectly fine.

I did try cleaning the lens , I bought a cheap lens cleaning kit and a lens repair kit and I actually thought of opening up the lens my self. [emoji2363]

Yes, I did try it on my old 5dmk iii and another R5 body.

I didn’t even think to check the firmware of the lens.

I was also wondering if maybe the fact that the ring is a little worn. Does that have anything to do with it[emoji848]

I was thinking that also, so I bought the cleaning kit.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkIf the wear is affecting the ability of the lens to make good contact with the body I would say it's possible. Sounds like you may need to send it in for service. As mentioned it won't be free but they will fix it.
