"New Lens Day" (I picked up the RF 100-500 yesterday and went out to play with it today. The owls were super cooperative!)

Johnathan I'm really digging your photo of the owl. Must be the new lens (lol).

On another note, I clicked on your photo and visited your SmugMug site. Of course I stalked your photos and was very impressed. I have a question with regard to your your wildlife photos. The dates of your photos (mostly the ones taken in March) and am surprised by the lack of snow. I assumed there was plenty of snow on the ground from early November to at least late March in and around Banff and Jasper national parks? Are the dates incorrect or am I assuming too much?

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Scott for the comment and for visiting my site! March and April are funny months around here. You can find bare fields in some areas, and waist-deep snow in others. Ski season goes right into May, but I'll also be riding dirt trails on my mountain bike at the same time. Yesterday it was -10 C and snowing, and I was freezing my fingers while waiting for that owl to take flight. Next week we're supposed to have +10 C again (positively balmy!). So like the saying goes, if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes

So... I had to go back and forth quite a few times, and the late additions made me think again. In the end, I'm going to chose Jonathan's "New lens day". Owls are fascinating birds, but they are rather difficult to find around my place, so I love seeing pictures of them.
Another fascinating bird, Brant's "Lesser Violetear" was a close second and I really liked Jayson's pup too. Congrats everyone ! As Jonathan mentioned, it wasn't easy to decide.

Owls are around my place but not easy to see and even harder to image, in fact my house is adjacent to Owl Creek:rolleyes:

Great flight image, I had a feeling it would be hard to beat, congrats Jonathan !!

Wow thanks! I have to say that I also really liked Mark's image of his grandaughter. The rim of backlight and the floral setting really make the scene.
