Back-breaking Photo Session

Here's a result of a back-breaking photo session with a dragonfly. I have to make do with what I ONLY have: 1000D/XS 18-55mm IS lens. Had to ran around for this flier and made him comfortable with me having around since I need to get really close and have this macro shot.


Just sharing one of my best so far. Quite happy with the outcome despite the aches and pains. :) Hope you enjoy it as well.

I've noticed that many dragonfly species seem to have a favourite perch that they continually return to as they patrol their territory. You might try watching one from a distance until you spotits perch and then set up your camera ready for the little critters return.

Nice shot! Like Cian said, is your next purchase going to be a Macro? If you like shooting insects than nothing is going to beat a nice macro! That said, that was a nice capture with kit lens...

I have been longing for a macro lens but my pocket is not up to it yet. [:D] For the meantime I have to master what I have and make the most out of it.


I have observed that too. Actually, they do come back where they love to perch. The real challenge was how to get VERY CLOSE without it flying away again. Luckily, this one stayed for quite sometime for me to be able to get a clear head shot. I guess it got used to me being around.

Thank you! I aiming for that macro lens. Indeed a good macro lens will help reduce those back-breaking sessions. [:D]
