Low budget light stand anchor.

So I was at the store the other day looking for a solution to my problem. On windy days, my light stands don't quite hold up to the weather, especially with 30 inch umbrellas on them.


Then suddenly it came to me. I was in the pet department of the local monopolizing discount store, and realized the fish rock bags would make a perfect anchor. So, for $3.28 a piece, I bought two 4.5 lb bags of fish rocks. The shape is oblong so it leans over the legs of the light stand, anchoring it to the ground. Cover it with a bit of fabric. and voila, light stand anchors... less than 5 bucks.


Hope this can help someone other than me.

if you live in an area that experiences snow you can also get the sand tubes they sell for traction dirt cheap (pun sorta intended). One 40lb tube will give you enough sand for lots of stands! Just gotta re-bag it. Good idea though!

Another [relatively] low-cost solution is tent pegs (if you're using the lightstands on ground, that is). Else you can use a gallon jug filled with water and attached to your lighstand with a bungee cord.
