The end of Tech Tips at The Digital Journalist

Looks like there will be no more Tech Tips from Chuck Westfall at The Digital Journalist. Canon pulled it´s sponsorship and the March issue was the final one that included Tech Tips.


Too bad. Tech Tips was a great resource. The Digital Journalist has been around for twelve years and Chuck has posted many interesting answers to difficult technical questions. If you scroll through the archives there is a lot to learn.


Does anyone know if there will be a replacement? I could not find any information from Canon.

Now, that's really sad. I wrote to Chuck a few months ago and he responded personally with some very thoughtful advice. I don't think my question ever made it into the newsletter, and he still took the time.


Not that I could ever understand the logic behind the corporate world ;-) but I suspect that nobody at Canon made the specificdecision to axe Tech Tips (really, how much could it have been costing them?). Instead, I bet it was probably just part of some much larger pullback, or a decision to reallocate funding in other places.


Which, at the risk of sounding redundant, is really sad.

I always found his Tech Tips to be useful and informative (as well as a pleasure to read, especially for such a technical column). And I, too, emailed him a couple of questions and he dutifully responded. I was very appreciative; I'm going to miss reading his educational contributions in the future.

I have e-mailed him several times and he has always responded.


Too bad that Canon don´t see the value in this. Lets hope Chuck can find a new arena to share his expertise and interact with Canon users.
