Off Topic...Feel like you're being nickle and dimed to death???

I sure do. I mean spending money on something cool like a body, lens or a flash is one thing but filters, gels, stands, batteries, memory cards, software, hard drives, Flickr account, Radio Triggers, etc...


How do you explain all of this to the wife???


I can show/explain toher what a lens (as long as it's a zoom!!!) or lights can do but a ND filter, RF triggers "but don't you have that thing (ST-E2), already?", circular polarizer? Her eyes just glaze over...


(I think she starts day dreaming about purses,shoes, you know chic stuff [:P])


I wish I could get her interested enough to want some of the same things.

I have a different problem. My wife knows most of that list... perhaps not ND filters and gels, nor does it have to be a zoom (she loves the nifty fifty). I need to somehow convince her that money can go towards other things than new lenses (she's currently dreaming of the 100-400mm).


Unfortunately, I don't think anyone on this forum knows a cure for lens lust. How can anyone be expected to fight double lens lust? So you see, if your wife was interested, life wouldn't necessarily be any easier.

IMO, it should not be a problem to convince a woman you need to spend 2-3-5 k$ on lighting equipment to make HER looking much better on the picture.


Make one shot where all her wrinkles and blemishes are clearly seen, harsh shadows etc etc. Then start buying one by one all the lighting equipment you need and shoot her each time you buy a new thing. Of course, each next picture to show her looking better than on the previous one. Then she will get a reflex soon - the more gear you have the better she looks on the pictures.


What do you think of that?

How about a nice new pair of polarized sunglasses for her, first? Then she can see firsthand the benefits of polarization.

Why not 4? Polarized sunglasses are actually dual-function - neutral density and polarizing, and there are 2 lenses.
