Narrow DOF on a FF body ?

Hey, i'm new here, so i hope i'm putting this in the right place.


I was just looking through a few of the posts already on here, and notice that someone said that on a FF body the DOF is narrower then on a Croped sensor body... Would anyone be able to explain the logic behind this, this seems like an interesting thing which i would love to understand as i am only used to cropped sensor, but i am soon going to be buying the 5D mk II

For the same focal length in order to fill the frame you will be closer to your subject. This will give you a more shallow DOF.

It's true - a crop body gives you an 'effective' focal length of 1.6x longer compared to FF, and an effective aperture of 1.6x smaller (larger f number) when compared to FF, as it applies to depth of field.

argh... that makes sense.. i was thinking there was more to it, with the way that the light fell onto the sensor etc. but no, yet again a simple answer.
