I like aspects of both pictures but would like to hear which one you think is best and why. Both pictures are taken with a 50D, 17-55 @ 17mm, 1/30 sec, f22, and ISO 320. Tripod used and images edited in Lightroom.

#1, definitely. Partly, I have a preference for landscapes with an interesting feature in the foreground. I especially like that bit of purple in an image otherwise dominated by greens and blues (and I think the second image is a little too dominated by those two colors). Lovely sky, though!
In #1, I also like the partial illumination of the field by the sun in the distance, which draws me into the image.
I like #1 better because the lupin has a similar color to the sky and is a more interesting subject than the tree.
The good point of #2 is that the sky appears richer because it doesn't have the lupin to draw the viewer's attention away. Also, the line draws the viewer's eyesight toward the tree which is interesting.
#1! The added purple to the landscapeis a definite plus, adding even more beauty to the photo!

#1. The colour of the flower and its presence itself draws my attention there.
+1 on #1. I always find landscapes much more appealing with an interesting foreground subject.
