Macro Twin Lite MT-24 EX Attachment Issue
Hi all - I bought a used MT-24 from Lens Rentals.com and based on Bryan's comments on his review expected it to attach directly (sans adapter) to my EF 100mm ƒ2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens. It doesn't fit.
Are there different versions of the MT-24 EX or did I misinterpret something?
Anybody know what adapter model I need?
Thanks,
Paul
Re: Macro Twin Lite MT-24 EX Attachment Issue
I was told by B&H you have to have the 72C with a step down ring to go to the 67mm 100mm F2.8L. I have been waiting on the 72C adapter to be in stock for some time.
Are you sure Bryan's review (I didn't check it) is not talking about the non L series 100mm
EDIT: Neuro has the right option below

You are correct. In the review Bryan is talking about the non-L version. Damn.

Re: Macro Twin Lite MT-24 EX Attachment Issue
It only attaches directly to macro lenses with a 58mm filter thread (non-L 100mm macro and MP-E 65mm). For the 100mm L IS Macro, you need the Macrolite 67C adapter. It's in stock.
Rick - whoever you talked to at B&H was dead wrong. You do need the 72C for the 180mm L Macro, though.

Maybe BH was wrong. But....those were on my wish list for some time.
I bought mine at a local store today, they had the Macrolite 67C adapter in stock. It wouldn

Rick, what lens do you have? What is it

I have both the 100mm L and the 180mm L. I doubt I use the flash much with the 100mm L because when I use a tripod the 180mm will be the lens of choice.
That may be why B&H said the step up ring would work. Since I had to have the 72C any way, and I think the step up ring to use the 72C on the 100mm would be a cheap work around. Save about $20.
I am going back to the camera store today, thinking back maybe it was not a 67C we were trying to mount. What I remember the labeling saying was that it is a Canon 67mm macro adapter. To me it appeared to be a step up ring, a very expensive one it was $32.00. Still the most likely option is that we didn

Hopefully you followed the thread and took Johns advice for the Macrolite 67 adapter.

The macrolite adapters are threaded on the lens side (the number it the thread diameter), and the other end is a grooved 58mm ring (no threads) for the MT-24.
I'd think the MT-24 would be even more important for handheld work, Rick.
Paul - what you need for your 100mm L macro is the Macrolite 67 adapter I linked above.
The thread issue was my exact thoughts when they told me thats what I needed. What is bad is if you go to Canon's website and click on the supplies and accessories for either the MT-24 or the 100mm Macro L, neither one of them list the Macrolite 67 Adapter. How would someone even know it existed or what they would need. I haven't seen anything from Canon that guides us the right way.
Yes the MT-24 would be even more important for handheld work. I thought about what I posted afterwards and knew that didn't sound right. I should have said if I am going on a macro trip, I am taking the 180mm. The 100mm won't get much use with the MT-24 because I use the 100mm as my walk around macro lens I take everywhere. I wouldn't take the extra weight.
I am just going to wait until I can get the right adapters and not have to get step up and down rings.
