Canon EF-100mm 2.8 USM Macro - loose manual focus ring question...
Hi
I just bought a new Canon EF-100mm 2.8
USM Macro lens (not the L Series) and notice that the MF ring has some
"play" or looseness around the barrel - I can make it "wobble" slightly along the axis
of the barrel and when it is picked up or moved the MF
ring will move very slightly and can make a quiet "knock" noise as it
touches onto another part of the barrel... it doesn't affect the
performance at all, the operation is smooth, its just a looseness I
didn't expect on a nice lens (with great reviews) and if I am focusing back and forth and
re-framing by moving the lens by its MF ring I can feel and hear it.
Total movement is less than a millimeter but quite noticeable...I would expect this on a cheap kit lens but not on a well regarded lens like this. (BTW, I don't really want to spring for an L... as nice as they are.)
(re general quality of non L lenses - I have EF-S 15-85mm 3.5 zoom lens that is really nice
without any kind of play anywhere.)
Can other 100mm USM owners let me know if you have the same vague looseness. I felt one in a store today and it didn't have as much movement as this one.
Thanks,
Chris
