50mm f/1.2L same problem as the Zeiss?

Shifting focal plane, I mean...


I thought the unit was backfocusing, and it is, but it doesn't do it at 1.2. As you stop down, the focal plane shifts back.


I'm sending it into Canon, but I'm afraid that it's going to turn out to be just the way it is.


The 35mm f/1.4L and the 85mm f/1.2L II don't do this. I checked them.


Anybody else have a 50mm f/1.2L and can verify/deny about this behavior on their copy? If it's a design flaw, and the f/1.4 doesn't do it, I'm going to dump the damn thing and just get the cheap version , because this is CRAP.[:(]

If you're stopping down, then you're doing it wrong. [;)] Just kidding.


Yes, that's normal behavior for the 50 L. The design results in beautiful bokeh thanks in part due to the undercorrected spherical aberration, but it doesn't have the floating elements nesessary to correct it for the focus shift.

If you're right, autofocus is broken f/2.0 and above.


There should be an aperture lock for the autofocus and viewfinder, up to 5.6 or something.
