What kind of Apps do you use when shooting outdoor ?

Hi all,


Just wondering if and what apps you all are using when shooting outdoor ?


My phone is a HTC Desire, running on android and I have installed the following Apps :

• Timelapse from Explorer DC. I use this to calculate the frames I need and interval when shooting time lapse movies,
• Canon lenses, A reference database with all the Canon lenses available. for those lonely moments in bed [:D]
• DoF Calculator by Jesper Svensson ( JDS ). Like the name says, this one I use when calculating the Depth of Field. ( use it since I have the 70-200 2.8L )
• Sun Surveyor Lite by Adam Ratana, this shows in a very nice way were the sun is in a compass kind of way, and what time the sunrise and sunset is.

I have that, but it's not the full version. It's the lite one, v.7D or something like that. It still wasn't free, though...

My contract will be up in a couple of weeks and I am also planning on a smart phone---On thing I do use a lot on my computer that would be nice on a phone is one of the apps that show direction and times of moonrise, moonset, sunrise and sunset in relation to your planned shooting location----very handy, the compas would be handy as well as a depth of field calculator--but it looks like you already have some of this covered. I would also like to keep my owners manuals on the phone---this should be easy since they are PDF but I won

To anyone still following this thread, I ran across an android app that I thought might be useful to some---Itsa DSLR controller and you can check it out ]here. Looksvery useful to me, but you have to have the right phone, unfortunately I do not. If you decide your interested, look at the website before you buy. your phone has to meet some requirements that only the newest high phones are likely to have. Things like USB host Controller, dual core processors, Android 2.3.3 etc.


on several occasions I have found myself needing something like this where a laptop was just too bulky or inconvenient.
