The 300mm looks real promising. The best got even better. The extenders may deliver Canon's and Hype yet on the 500mm and 600mm.

Wow. I just compared the 300 2.8 II with 2x III to the 300 2.8 with 1.4x III. The 300 2.8 II combo is noticeably better. The 300 2.8 II w/ 2x III is still amazingly sharp and maintains good contrast. Just wow.

Another chart I like to look at is how the 300mm f/2.8 II + 1.4X III @420mm f/4 stacks up against the much more expensive 400mm f/2.8L II @ f/4.

It looks preety close to me with the edge going to the 400mm II.
