Canon 7D tragedy.
So, my wife and I were able to go waterfall hunting this weekend, which is excellent. We hardly have the time or weather conducive of this so it was a real break to get to go out and shoot some stuff we've never seen before.
Then it happened. We were on a somewhat precarious trail at the second of 4 waterfalls that we visited this weekend and my wife misplaced a step and slid down a rock face wet from precipitation (and perspiration and maybe a little urination). The rock face was about 25 feet. After I freaked out and she was luckily OK (I know this because of the slow thumbs up she gave me), I made the trek down the side of the rock face to get to her.
She was a little bumped up with some abrasions on her knee and a scratch under her eye, but the camera got the worst of it. It was covered in mud and leafy litter by now and none of the buttons seemed to work. She also had a tokina 12-24 f4 mounted that may or may not have taken a big impact during the fall.
We have the cameras and lenses insured for things like this, but I'm curious where the closest authorized Canon repair facility is and also if and where there is a Tokina lens repair place.
Here is the obligatory post fall sad face.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Actually it sounds like a miracle rather than a tragedy. Your wife is ok. Everything else is minutiae. The 7D will live again.
My stuff is also insured, but I've never had to take advantage of that. Can't help you much there, I'm afraid.

There's a service center in Virginia. The next closest is New Jersey:

I have had good experiences with both.
Glad your wife was okay.

Sorry to hear the tale, but very glad your wife is ok. Cameras are fixable or replaceable especially with insurance.

Forget the camera, just glad to hear your wife is ok!
-
BTW..love the "slow thumbs up"
Glad to hear that she is ok and hope that the 7D recovers as well.

Slow or fast - thumbs up is always a good thing. Agree with others the 7d & lens are replacable if need be - at $1,200 to replace, I wonder if a repair is "worth it"

You mean the 7D isn't indestructible?
Glad to hear your wife is ok, 25' is a long ways to slide!!

I too am glad to here your wife is OK.
With the 7D out of commission, maybe now is a good time for your wife to upgrade to a full frame.

Bill came back,
$970 for the repair of the lens and the camera. Glad I don't have a deductible.
Sheesh.
