Re: Post your best current shots
I took this with the 1D IV and tripod, with the 70-200mm F2.8L II, F 13, ISO200, 1/80, taken at the Rose Garden at Woodward Park in Tulsa OK
It is close to a 100% crop but I like it

Lovely sharpness Rick, but also a creamy depth and softness it looks buttery, nice image.

Beautiful rose, Rick! Love the softness and composition ...nicely cropped!

Re: Post your best current shots
Has anyone ever gotten a nice photo of this type of swallow!? I swear they never land ...they just whip back and forth over the lake all day long! I must of looked like a real jerk trying to keep up with them to try and lock focus ...finally I just gave up!
This is the best I could do ...

Re: Post your best current shots
Great shot of the rose, Rick...
Denise...I can imagine you looked pretty funny!! Still, I think you got at 2 useable shots...I tried once to take a picture(s) of a flying dragonfly, with a classic 5D and 70-200f4IS...out of about 50 shots at 3 frames per second, I landed one!!! But it was useable!! Keep shooting...digital is soooooo fantastic!

Re: Post your best current shots
Took a hike through a Illinois park this afternooon. I saw a couple birds I've never seen before & a few old favorites.
Most weren't keepers (oh, how a longer lens would come in handy) but here are a couple that still survived some heavy cropping. Could someone tell me what type of bird the last one is?

Re: Post your best current shots
Nice shots Denise, It think they could be croped a bit more. They loose impact when they are to loosely framed.
I will try my hand at swallows as soon as I see some, theyfly like jet fighters andnever seem tostop![:O]

The lovely pileated woodpecker. Sounds like somebody beating drums in the forest.

Re: Post your best current shots
I spent a few hours this weekend on my current favorite photo location nearby. It offers various beautiful nature scenes and it's also the home of some sea birds. This time I was jumping around on some rocks by the shoreline trying to get a fair portrait of one of the swans. I tried various angles, both with only blue sea as background and also (as posted) with some "environmental details" in the background. I like this version with some rocks and navigation marks in the background best.
The second one is heavily cropped just to show the angry face he (or she?) gave me after I had been following him for a while. I took it as a sign to back off - I thought if I did he may be co-operative some other time too.

Both photos taken with Rebel T1i/500D and 70-200 f/4 L IS USM @200, f/5.6, 1/2000 sec, ISO 200. (The second one is cropped to about 15% of the original image.)

Re: Post your best current shots
@Denise, Those sparrows are very hard to capture. They're so fast that I never even see any around here. I'll have to keep my eyes open for them. The first one looks pretty good for a sparrow capture. Try pre-focusing to a point where you think it will be flying. From what I remember, I think they fly in figure 8 circles. [;)]
@Mark, I love the squirrel shot!
@CLS, I love the water, rocks, and sandy beach included in the first shot. Also, great exposure, lighting and contrast on both shots! Nice capture and composition on the 2nd shot too! I would like to see more eye detail on the 2nd shot, but that's very tough with the black color around the eyes.

Nice shots there Steve - is that at Cleveland Point/ Wellington Point outside of Brisbane?.... that particular tree looks very familiar.
Here's a shot from a wedding I photographed on the weekend. It was another really enjoyable shoot.

Here's a couple shots I took today to try out my new toy! I think I have alittle bit of front-focusing going on but other than that, I think I'm going to be very happy with this lens!
