Re: Post your best bird shots!
Despite the 22 degree weather I went out to the lake about 10 miles from home to try some flight shots on gulls ... it was overcast gray skies so the background is boring but I got some nice images.

How did you get to sync the 580 to such a fast shutter speed?
John.
Re: Post your best bird shots!
I set my camera up on a remote timer to get a few shots of the mockingbird in my backyard. The sun was going down and I had to push the exposure about 1.5 stops in post, which explains the extra grain.

Re: Post your best bird shots!
thanks Joel for the camera information. it's a good price, but still $2000 is a lot of money, I'm getting very good result from 7D now, so I'd like to stick with it now, if I got a 1D body, can I resist a version II lens? hm.... dangerous!
I just can't resist to post two more shots I got yesterday, the IQ.... I just can't get that with the 300mm

and this is the most beautiful GBH I have ever seen!

the IQ posted on this forum is not as good as on my Mac[:(]
thanks for viewing!

JJ,the ice really was blue. I increased the contrast slightly but didn't mess with the white balance or saturation at all.
The ice had broken offa nearby glacier, and glacier ice usually has a blue or green tint. Try this link for an explanation: http://epod.usra.edu/blog/2010/12/blue-glacier-ice.html
Here's another example that shows the difference in colour between the glacier ice and the snow in the background. To avoid going too far off topic, I made sure to choose an example with some more kittiwakes.

<p style="padding-left: 30px;"]John,
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"]I turn on high speed sync on the flash ... I know at such extreme shutter speeds it may not be providing much effect ... but I was shooting some other stuff with slower speeds as well.

JJphoto ...
nice GBH shot , I love the background, if had moved slightly yo your left or maybe made a slight sound to get him looking at you it would have been killer. ALso some NR on the background will make it better..... that 500mm lens has turned you on brother!!!
Keep on keepin
