Re: Post Your Best Nature Shots!
I had to crop them a little bit as I didn't want to get too close with my kid in my arms, but I was very surprised when I pulled them up on the computer and they were as sharp as they were. I know I can't hold that still either, so I would have to give credit to the IS.

Re: Post Your Best Nature Shots!
The background is pretty "busy" and therefore distracting. With that said, colors are great and the bird is tack sharp.

I do not find the background too busy or distracting. Birds do live in trees, however, I would use a vignette to help bring the eye to the bird. Just my 2 cents for what it is worth.

Really nice. I like it a lot. Would be great if the birds always cooperated like this one. I like a good uncluttered and/or blurred background as much as any photographer but it is not the 'be all and end all' of good photography. There are several newbies on this forum and they should not walk away thinking that all shots have to be uncluttered and blurred. I posted a photo just for critique to show this. It was a cluttered background that drew criticism of being a messy composition. I agreed with that criticism but it is my most asked for composition because of the history around it. And we all know the customer is always right. Bridal Portrait It seems the original photo is no longer available on the thread but you can see it in Madison's reply after he made some adjustments to it.

Re: Post Your Best Nature Shots!
I haven't posted any pictures here in a while, after seeing this thread on top today, I'd like to share a few...
1. The pack
There's lots of distracting elements in this image, but I like it because all 3 coyotes are looking at me.

3. Osprey

I would appreciate your comments, thank you.
Nate,

Re: Post Your Best Nature Shots!
Well like I've mentioned before in the forums, I'm not anywhere near a pro, so I don't really have much to contribute (critisizm wise), but I really like all three, especially the coyote one!

I used a Minolta 600mm f/6.3 bare for the first two and with a 2x extender for the last one.
Yes the squirl picture was taken in light rain. I'll post some more pictures as I get time.

Thanks for your comment. I saw this lens once on ebay in well used condtion which sold for a $1000. It's a very hard lens to find, from what I have "heard" that Minolta didn't make too many of these lenses. I found this lens on craigslist for $250!!! I got all nine lenses from this older gentleman who was a photo instructer andlife longphotog for $400!!!!!!! All in absolutely mint condition....[:D]

LOL who needs a Canon EF 800mm when you have such a sharp lens?
BTW, what kind of adapter you are using to connect it to you (EOS right?) camera?

Actually, all I did was sand the rear end cap to about 1/4" andhot glued it in place!! I will get the mount converted eventually, but until then this works fine.

Re: Post Your Best Nature Shots!
Very nice, richm. I love the colors, the strong lines, and the symmetry. Without the house, it would still be very nice , but the house adds a focal point which- I can't explain how- *makes* the picture IMO.
