Well there is definitely something between the lens and the bird which degrades sharpness... a fence?
There was a branch in front of the bird, but it was so cute I kept it.
I like the Eagle, Fast Glass. Good perch, good exposure against bright sky. I would increase the brightness a little bit and remove the small branch/leaf in the bottom-right corner.
Thanks for the advice Nate, I don't have photoshop but I'll try in some other program and see if I can remove that leaf.

Today was amazing. Clear skies, cool breeze and it stayed in the 70's all day. I drove down to the water earlier this evening and took some pictures. No animals but the sky was quite nice.

Any coments are extremely welcomed!
I like number 1 the most Fast Glass, the image has good eye contact with catch light and good pose.
Inever thoughtabouteye contact when I select my photos but now that Ilook at it, your right. All my pictures are not cropped exept for the eagle picture.

Hi guys, thanks for the comments. I just did my part to stimulate the US economy. UPS delivered the lens on late Friday afternoon, I spent the entire Saturday (6:30am-7:00pm) at Bolsa Chica learning and practicing with it.
Congrats! You deserve it!
Congrats Nate!
Maybe now there is chance you are selling your 400 5.6? [:D]
Here are a couple more shots too add too this thread.

I want a new lens so bad now!
hey FG - really nice shots.
was wondering, how do you get your file sizes so small? 50K?
trying to upload a pic that's 196K and keep getting the "exceeds file size" error.
Your pix are so nice - and the .jpg quality looks awesome, but I see your file size is only 54K for that last one.
how do ya do that?
jeez, just tried a Save 4 Web at medium, got it down to 80K and I still got the error.
Is it me or is something buggy going on right now?
I have the latest version of DPP (digita photo professional). I reduce the picture size to 800x533, save in 16bit tif, sharpen it and save again in lowest quality jpeg, thats all. Make sure you have a tiff image or you will get very bad jpegartifacts from saving injpegtwice. You always have to sharpen the down-rezed version of the picture or it willlook soft.
John
Canoli it could be that you have too many files in general uploaded to TDP. Sometimes regardless of file size, if you have too many, you cannot upload more.
FG - Powers - thank you both.
That sounds like a good system for downsizing / sharpening for output - I do pretty much the same thing - in fact I've posted here before. I think it must be what PB wrote, that I have too many uploaded. I've got about 25 in my "bin." So I'll delete some and try again.
Shoot - okay, just tried to delete some files, and I don't see a way to do it. All I've got is an option to make a new folder or resize (or upload). Guess I'll have to explore a little deeper - maybe there's a User Control Panel or something like it...
Thanks again for your suggestions.
Go on your acount, click "view all files" and underneath all your pictures is "delete", just hit delete and your picture is gone.
John
thanks John - just finished. Finally getting around to posting a nature shot - though not completely natural, as there's the Point Sur Lighthouse and some outbuildings in the shot...
one more, from a little further south on Rt. 1 near Big Sur:

Here are a few from a little while back. Taken with 70-200 f4 IS with Kenko 1.4xTC. Second picture is cropped as it is due to some grass that blew between the lens and the other eye. Should have taken another shot I guess.
