Re: 70-200 2.8ll Sharpness
Thanks Jon. I know people get all up in arms about taking something other pictures of pets, but sometimes they're the only ones available!! My wife is done with me taking pics, and my 2 1/2yr old is pretty done, too!! "Dadda, put the cmra down!!". The reason for the cat post, mainly, though, was to show the excellent sharpness and DETAIL of the 70-200ll. And I have to admit, Elliott, the cat, is pretty photogenic, too. He has great colors, and lots of character(his nickname is FatBoy, "cause all he does is sit and eat!!), so he's usually available for photo ops!!

Agreed...
I'm currently sellinga motorbike to pay for a 5D mkII and 24-70 f/2.8... I'd love to squeeze the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II in there as well but I just love the 70-200mm f/4L IS so much and I think that money could be better spent on a replacement for my 50mm f/1.8 II.
It really is a fantastic upgrade by Canon. I don't think they've cut one corner in developing this lens.
Re: 70-200 2.8ll Sharpness
I would like to have the new lens, I had 4 of the older versions (non-is and IS), and while they were very good, my 70-200 F4 L made them look worse than they were.
Your cat must be a distant cousin of mine. Here is a image taken with my 70-something lens made in the early 1990's. Like yours, mine just walked by and I took a quick snapshot.
