OK still using a 350D after 6 years may seem like I keep them too long (it still takes better pictures than me).

I wouldn't believe anything from Canon Rumors. For two years they have been predicting that the 1Ds IV will be released in just a few months. At some point their prophecy will be fulfilled, not because of some magic insight, but because time presses on and things eventually happen.
I will make my own prediction, even if the 7D is replaced tomorrow, the price of the new 7D replacement will be 30% higher than the model now and the 7D prices now will remain unaffected.

<div>Facts trump rumors. The 7D was released in 2009, not 2008. Also, while it's not incorrect to state that L lenses and 1-series bodies are made in Japan, in fact, almost all of the higher end products are made in Japan, including xD and xxD bodies and most lenses. The low-end consumer lenses (generally the ones with plastic mounts, like the EF-S 18-55mm, EF-S 55-250mm, and EF 50mm f/1.8 II), and some of the xxxD/xxxxD bodies, are made in Taiwan and Malaysia. But as stated above, Canon claims that production in Japan has been back to normal for quite some time.</div>

We kind of de-railed your thread...but why not concider one of the new rebels. I use live view all the time with macro and landscape. With some of the boides mentioned you will loose that ability. Biggest negative I see is that you won't have the AF adjustment, but you could always pack up your Canon lenses and ship them to Canon and make them do it. The problem with the 5D or the 1D II is that I see them selling for not much less than you will get out of your 7D. If you are only going to gain a few hundred dollars it may not be worth it to you. You could sell your 7D and buy one of the new model rebels and pick up a fair amount. Biggest negative is that your memory cards and batteries won't work with them.
Hopefully you won't need to make this decission either way and things will work out.

Rick brought up some good points. Switching to the 1D MKII sounds like a sideways move at best and perhaps even a downgrade compared to your 7D. It doesn't sound like enough of a savings to make the switch and assume the risk of someone else's camera. It has a much higher acctuation rate than your 7D and I'm not sure how that camera is only 2 years old??
I think that your 7D will hold it's value longer.
Also, your EF-S and Digital Lenses won't work on the 1D MkII.
Try to hold onto your 7D if you can and I will always lend you some lenses. I'm serious!
