The Gitzo GT0531 is definitely what I've had my eye on, but I figured I should at least search around to see if I could find something similar and save some money. I am willing to spend the money on the Gitzo if I am convinced that it is really that much better than something like the Slik or Promaster or that it will hold up a lot longer.

Well, finally pulled the trigger on the GT0531 and RRS BH-25 ball head. Looking forward to putting it the the test at Glacier National Park in 6 weeks.

Congrats on the new toys! It looks like you got a really good quality, lightweight setup!
Enjoy,

Got the new toy yesterday. Both the tripod and head (BH-25) are much sturdier that I expected. Even thought the set up is very light, it definitely feels like a high quality piece of equipment. Definitely pleased with the purchase so far.

You won't regret buying good stuff. When I had a cheap new-to-me tripod and head, I loved it... for about a week.
