I am living in Dominican Republic now, but I am from Argentina. I don't know if there is a Canon representative here.
My 24-105 IS 4L did the same thing. I used it fine on my 400D then upgraded to a 50D and it kept doing this error. Cost me around £180ish to get it repaired. I wasn't impressed at all, expensive L lens going wrong and it turned out to be faulty IS.
Sent it to Canon Service center mine fixed they say due tio electrical inconsisitancy so the calibrate the current flow.. so far no probs BTW my camera 1Ds MKIII
